Lucca & Pisa Wedding Photographer – Historic Villas, Timeless Elegance & Authentic Tuscan Stories
There is a side of Tuscany that we have always found particularly fascinating, and it lies between Lucca and Pisa. After photographing weddings across Tuscany for so many years, we have learned that every area has its own personality, its own light, and its own way of telling a story. And Lucca and Pisa feel wonderfully different from the more familiar landscapes of Florence and Chianti.
Florence is grand, vibrant, and unmistakably Renaissance. Chianti is all about vineyards, golden hills, and warm countryside colors. Lucca, on the other hand, has a quieter, more aristocratic soul. Its historic villas feel elegant, sometimes almost austere, with imposing façades, symmetrical gardens, monumental trees, and a sense of understated sophistication that we absolutely love.
Pisa has a different personality again. Beyond its famous Leaning Tower, the countryside reveals an extraordinary collection of noble residences, historic estates, and intimate gardens. Here, the landscape feels more open, the architecture sometimes more dramatic, and the atmosphere wonderfully relaxed. We particularly love the contrast between the refined character of these historic properties and the spontaneous, emotional energy of a wedding celebration.
For us, these differences are what make wedding photography in Lucca and Pisa so inspiring. We don't want every Tuscan wedding to look the same. We love finding the unique character of each place and allowing it to become part of the story, while keeping the people, their emotions, and their experience at the center of everything.
Some venues capture this atmosphere particularly well. Around Lucca, Villa Grabau is a wonderful example of the area's aristocratic elegance, with its historic architecture, magnificent gardens, and beautiful Limonaia. Villa dei Pasquinelli, also known as Casale de' Pasquinelli, offers a different experience: a more intimate countryside setting, surrounded by olive groves, where a wedding can become an entire weekend of relaxed Italian celebrations.
Closer to Pisa, Villa Ravano is a place that feels especially familiar to us, having photographed weddings there. We love its authentic character, spacious gardens, and the feeling of being welcomed into a private Italian home rather than a conventional wedding venue. Its historic interiors and relaxed atmosphere give us plenty of opportunities to capture spontaneous moments without interfering with the natural flow of the day.
Then there is Domus Comeliana, one of the most distinctive wedding venues in Pisa. Its gardens and terraces offer something quite extraordinary: an intimate, elegant setting with views of the Leaning Tower and the monumental heart of the city. We find this contrast between architectural grandeur and private celebration particularly fascinating.
And finally, Villa Corliano, between Pisa and Lucca, perfectly represents the noble heritage of this part of Tuscany. Its frescoed interiors, monumental gardens, and historic character create an atmosphere that feels almost cinematic. It is exactly the kind of architecture we love working with: beautiful proportions, strong lines, textured surfaces, and natural light that changes the mood of a photograph throughout the day.
Our Approach to Wedding Photography in Lucca and Pisa
As wedding photographers, we have always been attracted to places with a strong identity. And what we appreciate most about Lucca and Pisa is that their elegance never feels artificial. There is something genuine about these old villas, their gardens, and the traces of history visible everywhere.
Our photography combines a documentary approach with an editorial sensibility. We love observing real moments, unexpected gestures, and the energy of a celebration, but we are equally fascinated by composition, architecture, and light.
In Lucca and Pisa, these two sides of our photography come together naturally. The architecture provides structure and sophistication, while the people bring movement, warmth, and emotion. A spontaneous laugh beneath a centuries-old tree, a beautifully imperfect moment during an aperitivo, or the last sunlight touching the façade of a historic villa can become some of our favorite photographs.
We are Maurizio and Serena, the photographers behind Rellini Art Studio. After more than two decades photographing weddings in Tuscany and across Italy, we still love discovering how differently each place tells its story.
For couples planning a destination wedding in Lucca or Pisa, our goal is simple: to create photographs that feel elegant without being staged, artistic without losing their authenticity, and timeless without ever forgetting the real emotions of the day.
Because for us, the beauty of Tuscany is never just about the landscape or the architecture. It's about the life that happens within it.

FAQ – Wedding Photography in Lucca & Pisa, Tuscany
Why choose Lucca or Pisa for a destination wedding in Tuscany?
We have photographed weddings all across Tuscany, and we believe Lucca and Pisa offer something genuinely different from Florence, Siena, or Chianti.
Lucca has an elegant, aristocratic personality, with magnificent historic villas, formal Italian gardens, and an almost austere architectural beauty. Pisa feels more open and relaxed, combining noble countryside estates with extraordinary historical landmarks.
We particularly love these areas because they offer the elegance of Tuscany without always following the familiar visual language of vineyards and rolling hills. For our documentary and editorial wedding photography, the architecture, natural light, and intimate atmosphere create wonderful opportunities for authentic storytelling.
Which wedding venues do you photograph most frequently in Lucca and Pisa?
Some of the venues we know particularly well include Villa Grabau, Casale dei Pasquinelli, Villa Ravano, and Villa Corliano.
Each has a very different personality, which is precisely what we appreciate.
Villa Grabau: We love its grand architecture, romantic gardens, and aristocratic atmosphere. It is particularly inspiring for elegant, editorial wedding photography.
Casale dei Pasquinelli: A more intimate and relaxed countryside setting, perfect for spontaneous celebrations and authentic Italian wedding experiences.
Villa Ravano: A venue we have photographed weddings at, where the gardens, historic interiors, and welcoming atmosphere create beautiful opportunities for natural storytelling.
Villa Corliano: A magnificent historic residence between Pisa and Lucca, with frescoed interiors, architectural symmetry, and a refined, timeless character.
Knowing the personality of a venue helps us anticipate how the light changes, where guests naturally gather, and how to create beautiful images without interrupting the celebration.
What other wedding venues do you cover in Lucca and Pisa?
Although Villa Grabau, Casale de' Pasquinelli, Villa Ravano, and Villa Corliano are among the venues we are most familiar with, we photograph weddings throughout the Lucca and Pisa countryside.
Some other beautiful wedding venues in the area include Villa Reale di Marlia, Villa Oliva, Villa Bernardini, Villa Rossi, Villa Daniela Grossi, and Fattoria Mansi Bernardini near Lucca.
Around Pisa, couples can also consider Domus Comeliana, with its extraordinary proximity to the Leaning Tower, Villa Le Molina near San Giuliano Terme, and Valle di Badia, a restored Tuscan hamlet particularly appealing for multi-day celebrations.

We are always happy to explore new venues, including private estates and exclusive villas that may not regularly host weddings. Our experience photographing weddings across Tuscany allows us to adapt quickly to different settings and lighting conditions.
Is Lucca or Pisa better for a luxury villa wedding?
It really depends on the atmosphere you are looking for.
We usually associate Lucca with understated luxury, historic gardens, monumental architecture, and a quieter, almost aristocratic elegance. Pisa offers a fascinating combination of noble countryside villas and iconic Italian architecture.
For couples dreaming of a refined celebration in a historic Italian estate, both destinations are wonderful. We particularly love weddings where the venue's character is preserved rather than overwhelmed by decorations.
What is the best time of year for a wedding in Lucca or Pisa?
Our favorite months are May, June, September, and early October. The temperatures are generally more comfortable, the gardens are beautiful, and the softer light can be particularly flattering for photography.
July and August can also be wonderful, especially for evening celebrations, but we strongly recommend avoiding outdoor ceremonies during the hottest hours.
After photographing so many summer weddings in Tuscany, we have learned that planning around the light is one of the simplest ways to make the entire experience more enjoyable.
How do you use natural light when photographing weddings in historic Tuscan villas?
Light is one of the most important elements of our photography.
In venues such as Villa Grabau and Villa Corliano, we love the contrast between bright gardens and the deeper shadows created by historic architecture. Old stone, frescoed rooms, tall windows, and tree-lined avenues offer extraordinary opportunities for sophisticated, natural compositions.
We particularly enjoy the final hours before sunset, but we never rely exclusively on golden-hour light. Overcast skies, shaded gardens, and even strong midday sunlight can produce beautiful photographs when used intentionally.
Our goal is to make the most of the atmosphere that already exists rather than artificially creating it.
Do you photograph multi-day destination weddings in Lucca and Pisa?
Absolutely. Many of our international couples choose to celebrate their weddings over two, three, or even four days.
A welcome dinner in Lucca's historic center, a wine tasting in the surrounding countryside, the wedding itself, and a relaxed pool party the following day can all become part of the experience.
We love photographing these celebrations because they allow us to get to know the guests and capture the atmosphere beyond the wedding ceremony itself. Some of the most meaningful and spontaneous photographs happen during these informal moments.
Do you offer documentary and editorial wedding photography in Lucca and Pisa?
Yes. Our photography is built around a documentary approach, with an editorial influence.
We spend most of the wedding day observing rather than directing, capturing spontaneous emotions, genuine interactions, and everything that makes each celebration unique.
At the same time, we pay particular attention to composition, architecture, color, and natural light. This is especially rewarding in the historic villas of Lucca and Pisa, where the surroundings offer such a distinctive visual identity.
We believe luxury wedding photography should feel effortless, never overly posed or artificial.
How much time should we dedicate to couple portraits during our wedding?
Usually, around 15–20 minutes is enough.
We know how important it is to enjoy your wedding rather than spend hours posing for photographs. Our couple sessions are relaxed, natural, and designed to fit into the flow of the celebration.
At venues such as Villa Grabau, Casale de' Pasquinelli, Villa Ravano, and Villa Corliano, we love using the gardens and architecture to create elegant portraits without taking couples away from their guests for too long.
Can you help us plan the best wedding photography timeline?
Of course. After more than two decades photographing weddings, we know how much a well-designed timeline can improve the experience.
We generally suggest allowing approximately two hours for getting ready, a relaxed cocktail hour of around 90 minutes, and a short couple session when the light is at its best.
For summer weddings in Lucca and Pisa, we particularly recommend considering the position of the sun when choosing the ceremony and dinner times.
We are always happy to coordinate with your wedding planner to make sure photography fits naturally into the day.
Do you travel to Lucca and Pisa for weddings, and are travel costs included?
Yes. We are based in Central Italy and regularly photograph weddings throughout Tuscany, including Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena, and Chianti.
Our wedding photography collections include our travel expenses, so couples do not need to worry about unexpected transportation or accommodation costs.
We also plan our travel carefully to ensure we arrive with plenty of time before the wedding.
How quickly will we receive our wedding photographs?
We know how exciting it is to relive the wedding, so we believe couples should not have to wait months for their photographs.
Our usual delivery time is approximately 7–20 days, depending on the celebration and collection. When included in the package, we also provide a preview within 3–4 days.
Every selected photograph is delivered in both color and black and white, allowing you to experience your wedding through two complementary interpretations.
Why choose Rellini Art Studio as your Lucca and Pisa wedding photographers?
We are Maurizio and Serena, a married photography duo with more than twenty years of experience and over a thousand weddings photographed.
What makes our approach different is the balance between our knowledge of Tuscany, our documentary instinct, and our love of editorial photography.
We know that the magnificent architecture of a villa is only one part of the story. What really matters is what happens within it: the laughter, the unexpected moments, the emotions, and the atmosphere that makes your wedding yours.
We want our photographs to feel natural today and just as meaningful twenty years from now.
