01/ AUTHENTIC & LOCAL
Local Knowledge, Editorial Vision & Authentic Tuscan Atmosphere
Florence is more than a beautiful backdrop. It's a place we know intimately, from its magnificent Renaissance villas and historic palaces to the vineyards, olive groves and rolling hills of the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
With over 20 years of experience as wedding photographers in Florence and Tuscany, we've photographed celebrations at some of the region's most extraordinary wedding venues, including Villa Medicea di Lilliano, Villa Gamberaia, Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte, Villa Le Fontanelle and Il Salviatino.
We know the character of these places, their hidden corners, and above all, the extraordinary Tuscan light. We understand how the afternoon sun moves across ancient stone walls, how golden hour transforms the Florentine hills, and how to use natural light to create elegant, timeless photographs in every season.
But our approach goes far beyond beautiful scenery. We believe the true magic of a destination wedding in Florence lies in its authentic Italian atmosphere: long aperitivos, laughter beneath the olive trees, intimate dinners under the stars, spontaneous emotions and the unmistakable warmth of Italian celebrations.
Combining documentary wedding photography with an editorial eye, we capture the beauty of Tuscany without losing the authenticity of your story. Sophisticated portraits, genuine moments and a relaxed experience that allows you to enjoy every minute of your wedding day.
Florence, beautifully seen. Tuscany, genuinely felt.

The best wedding venues in Florence and Chianti
Florence Wedding Photographer — Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Florence one of the best destinations for a wedding in Italy?
Florence offers something truly unique: Renaissance architecture, world-famous art, magnificent historic villas and the beautiful Tuscan countryside, all within a relatively small area.
Couples can exchange vows in a historic palace overlooking the city, celebrate in a Renaissance villa surrounded by gardens or host an intimate wedding at a wine estate in the nearby Chianti hills.
What makes Florence especially appealing for destination weddings is the opportunity to combine an elegant celebration with a memorable Italian experience for your guests. Wine tastings, long dinners under the stars, visits to historic towns and relaxed afternoons by the pool can turn a wedding into an unforgettable holiday.
As wedding photographers, we love the extraordinary variety of light, colours, architecture and atmosphere that Florence offers.
What are the best wedding venues in Florence, Italy?
After more than 20 years photographing weddings in Tuscany, we've developed a particular affection for Florence's historic villas and countryside estates.
Some of our favourite wedding venues in Florence and the surrounding hills include:
Villa Medicea di Lilliano: A historic estate near Florence, with Renaissance architecture, frescoed interiors, beautiful gardens and views towards the Duomo. One of our favourites for elegant destination weddings.
Villa Gamberaia: Famous for its extraordinary Italian gardens, architectural symmetry and panoramic setting in the hills of Settignano.
Villa Le Fontanelle: An intimate and refined villa overlooking Florence, with beautiful terraces, gardens and a wonderful atmosphere for exclusive celebrations.
Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte: A magnificent historic residence with spectacular frescoed rooms and formal gardens, particularly suited to grand, elegant weddings.
Il Salviatino: A luxurious historic villa in the hills above Florence, combining refined interiors, gardens and impressive views of the city.
Villa il Garofalo: A beautiful Florentine villa with historic architecture and an elegant atmosphere, offering wonderful opportunities for editorial wedding photography.
Villa Cora: A luxury villa hotel with opulent interiors and beautiful gardens, ideal for couples who appreciate classic Italian glamour.
Each has its own personality. The best choice depends on your guest count, preferred atmosphere, accommodation requirements and the experience you want to create.
Which wedding venues in Florence offer the most beautiful photography opportunities?
Our favourites are venues that combine interesting architecture, beautiful natural light and a variety of settings.
Villa Medicea di Lilliano is particularly inspiring because of the way sunlight interacts with its historic architecture. The frescoed gallery, geometric shadows, gardens and warm evening light offer wonderful opportunities for sophisticated editorial photographs.
Villa Gamberaia is exceptional for its formal gardens, symmetry and timeless atmosphere. Its architecture and landscaping create naturally elegant compositions.
Villa Le Fontanelle offers a different perspective, with romantic views over Florence and beautiful outdoor spaces that work particularly well for intimate celebrations.
Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte is especially impressive for couples who love historic interiors, frescoes and a more dramatic, aristocratic aesthetic.
However, a beautiful venue is only part of the story. We believe the most memorable wedding photographs combine these extraordinary surroundings with the genuine emotions and personalities of the people celebrating.
Is Villa Medicea di Lilliano a good venue for a destination wedding near Florence?
Absolutely. Villa Medicea di Lilliano is one of our favourite wedding venues in the Florence area, especially for couples looking for an elegant Renaissance atmosphere without losing the relaxed feeling of the Tuscan countryside.
We particularly love the frescoed gallery, the historic architecture at the far end of the gardens, the changing patterns of sunlight and the magical atmosphere of outdoor dinners beneath fairy lights.
In our experience photographing American destination weddings here, celebrations of approximately 70–80 guests create a particularly enjoyable balance between intimacy, atmosphere and space.
The gardens are wonderful for candid photographs during cocktail hour, while the architecture offers beautiful backgrounds for a short editorial portrait session.
We recommend working with a planner who knows the estate and arranging guest transfers carefully, especially when accommodation is located in a separate part of the property.
Which Florence wedding venues are best for an elegant, editorial photography style?
For couples drawn to fashion-inspired portraits, historic architecture and sophisticated compositions, we particularly love Villa Gamberaia, Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte, Villa Medicea di Lilliano, Il Salviatino and Villa Cora.
These venues offer elements that work beautifully with an editorial photography approach: architectural lines, frescoed rooms, formal gardens, interesting textures and distinctive natural light.
Our style combines this editorial sensibility with documentary storytelling.
We might create a refined portrait inspired by the architecture of a Renaissance villa, then spend the next hour quietly photographing spontaneous laughter, emotional embraces and the atmosphere of your celebration.
The goal is to create photographs that look extraordinary while remaining genuinely connected to your experience.
Should we choose a wedding venue in Florence city centre or in the surrounding countryside?
Both options offer wonderful experiences, but they create very different wedding atmospheres.
A wedding in central Florence is ideal for couples who love Renaissance art, historic palaces, luxury hotels and the energy of the city. It's also a great choice if guests want to explore Florence on foot during their stay.
The surrounding hills, including Fiesole, Settignano, Bagno a Ripoli and Impruneta, offer more privacy, gardens, panoramic views and beautiful historic villas.
For couples dreaming of a relaxed Italian destination wedding with outdoor dining, sunset portraits and time spent together over several days, we often recommend considering the countryside just outside Florence.
You can enjoy the best of both worlds: the beauty and culture of Florence alongside the peaceful atmosphere of a Tuscan villa.
What are the best wedding venues in the Chianti countryside near Florence?
The Chianti region is ideal for couples who imagine their wedding surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, historic castles and traditional Tuscan architecture.
Some of our favourite venues in the wider Chianti area include Dievole Winery, Castello di Vicchiomaggio, Castello di Meleto, Villa Boscarello and Vignamaggio.
We love the relaxed atmosphere of countryside weddings, particularly when couples choose to spend several days with their families and friends.
Welcome dinners, wine tastings, pool parties and long outdoor receptions offer wonderful opportunities for natural, documentary photography.
Chianti is especially appealing to couples who want their wedding to feel like a genuine Italian experience rather than simply a formal event.
When is the best time of year to get married in Florence?
For outdoor weddings in Florence, we particularly love late May, June and September.
These months often provide a beautiful combination of pleasant evening temperatures, attractive natural light and opportunities for outdoor celebrations.
July and August can also be wonderful, but temperatures may be very high. During the hottest weeks, we generally recommend planning ceremonies later in the afternoon, providing shade and refreshments for guests and avoiding long portrait sessions in direct midday sunlight.
Spring and autumn offer their own beauty, with softer light, seasonal colours and a more intimate atmosphere.
Ultimately, the best month depends on your priorities, your chosen venue and the type of celebration you're planning.
What is the best time of day for wedding photographs in Florence?
The most flattering outdoor light is often found during the final part of the afternoon and the period approaching sunset.
At historic Florentine villas, the direction of the light can transform gardens, terraces and architectural details, creating beautiful shadows and warm tones.
We particularly enjoy using this light for a short portrait session, usually around 10–15 minutes when the schedule and conditions allow.
However, great wedding photography isn't limited to golden hour. Florence's historic interiors, shaded gardens and architectural spaces offer beautiful opportunities throughout the day.
Our approach is to understand the light at your venue and adapt naturally, without asking you to spend hours away from your guests.
Can we have editorial wedding photographs without spending hours posing?
Definitely. In fact, that's exactly how we prefer to work.
Our photography combines documentary storytelling with an editorial eye, allowing us to create elegant, magazine-worthy portraits while keeping the experience spontaneous and enjoyable.
You don't need to be comfortable in front of a camera or know how to pose.
We'll offer simple guidance when needed, paying attention to light, composition and movement, but we won't turn your wedding into a fashion photoshoot.
Most of the day is photographed naturally, as events unfold.
We believe the best wedding photographs are beautiful not only because of how they look, but because of what they make you remember.
Can we take wedding portraits in Florence's historic city centre?
Yes. Florence offers extraordinary settings for wedding portraits, including the area around Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and the historic streets of the city centre.
However, we recommend planning city portraits carefully.
Florence is a popular destination, and some of its most famous landmarks can be extremely crowded, particularly during the summer months.
Early morning can be especially beautiful for couples planning an elopement or a dedicated portrait session.
For a wedding taking place at a countryside villa, we usually suggest avoiding unnecessary transfers into the city during the celebration. The time spent travelling is often better enjoyed with your guests, especially when your venue already offers beautiful photographic settings.
Can we legally get married in Florence, Italy?
Yes. International couples can arrange legally recognised civil weddings in Florence, provided they meet the relevant Italian legal requirements.
One of the city's most iconic locations for civil ceremonies is Palazzo Vecchio, in Piazza della Signoria, where several historic rooms are used for weddings.
Some venues outside the city centre may also be authorised to host civil ceremonies, depending on their municipality and current arrangements.
Symbolic ceremonies offer greater flexibility and are popular among couples who prefer to complete the legal formalities in their home country.
We recommend working with an experienced local wedding planner to understand the documentation, ceremony options and administrative requirements that apply to your nationality and circumstances.
What happens if it rains on our wedding day in Florence?
Rain doesn't mean you have to compromise on beautiful wedding photographs.
Some of Florence's most impressive venues have extraordinary indoor spaces, including frescoed halls, historic galleries, elegant rooms and covered areas.
For example, Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte is particularly impressive for its historic interiors, while Villa Medicea di Lilliano and Villa Le Fontanelle also offer interesting indoor photographic possibilities.
Cloudy conditions can produce soft, flattering light that works beautifully for portraits.
Our recommendation is to choose a venue with an indoor alternative you genuinely love, rather than treating the rain plan as an afterthought.
We always adapt our photographic approach to the conditions, looking for beautiful light and authentic moments whatever the weather.
Is Florence a good destination for a multi-day wedding celebration?
Absolutely. One of the greatest advantages of getting married in Florence is the opportunity to create an experience that extends well beyond the wedding day.
Many international couples organise welcome dinners, wine tastings, informal gatherings, pool parties or day-after brunches.
These additional events allow guests to spend meaningful time together while discovering Florence and the Tuscan countryside.
From a photographic perspective, multi-day celebrations are particularly rewarding because they reveal different sides of the story.
A relaxed welcome dinner might be full of spontaneous laughter and reunions, while the wedding day brings a different atmosphere of anticipation, emotion and celebration.
We offer photography coverage for multi-day destination weddings throughout Florence and Tuscany.
Why choose experienced local wedding photographers in Florence?
Local knowledge can make a real difference, particularly when you're planning a destination wedding from abroad.
After photographing weddings in Tuscany for more than two decades, we've become familiar with many of the region's historic villas, landscapes and seasonal lighting conditions.
We understand how the sun moves around Tuscan architecture, why timing matters for outdoor ceremonies and how to plan beautiful portraits without interrupting the natural rhythm of the celebration.
We're Maurizio and Serena, a husband-and-wife photography team based in central Italy, and our approach is built around authentic storytelling, refined composition and a calm, unobtrusive presence.
Our experience with international couples also helps us understand the expectations and practical considerations involved in planning a wedding in Italy.
How far in advance should we book our Florence wedding photographer?
For weddings taking place between May and September, we recommend contacting us as soon as your venue and date are confirmed.
Popular Saturdays and dates at sought-after Florence wedding venues can be booked well in advance.
However, we also welcome enquiries for smaller celebrations, weekday weddings and last-minute availability.
If you're planning a wedding in Florence, Tuscany or the surrounding Chianti countryside, we'd love to hear about your plans.
