Siena Wedding Photographer – Medieval Beauty, Tuscan Light & Authentic Wedding Stories
There is something about Siena and its countryside that has always felt incredibly close to our hearts. After more than twenty years photographing weddings throughout Tuscany, we still find ourselves inspired by this extraordinary part of Italy. Perhaps it's the medieval villages, the endless rolling hills, the warm colors of ancient stone, or the way the landscape changes with the seasons. Whatever it is, Siena has a personality that feels both timeless and deeply authentic, and it has become one of our favorite places to tell wedding stories.
Unlike Florence, with its Renaissance grandeur and monumental elegance, the Siena countryside has a more intimate, rustic, and wonderfully imperfect character. Here, Tuscany feels almost cinematic: winding roads lined with cypress trees, golden wheat fields, ancient farmhouses, olive groves, and hilltop villages that seem untouched by time. We love this atmosphere because it perfectly complements our approach to wedding photography: natural, emotional, and documentary, with a refined editorial touch.
Our Favorite Wedding Venues in Siena and the Tuscan Countryside
Over the years, we have had the opportunity to photograph weddings at some of the most beautiful wedding venues in Siena and its surrounding countryside. Each has its own identity, and knowing these places well allows us to anticipate the light, understand the spaces, and capture the celebration without interrupting its natural rhythm.
Borgo Stomennano, near Monteriggioni, is one of those places that feels like a small world of its own. Its historic buildings, beautiful gardens, and authentic Tuscan atmosphere create an extraordinary setting for destination weddings. We particularly love the contrast between its elegant architecture and the relaxed energy of outdoor celebrations.
Villa Catignano, surrounded by the Chianti hills near Siena, offers a different kind of beauty. Its historic villa, intimate courtyards, and panoramic gardens create wonderful opportunities for sophisticated wedding photography. We love how the architecture frames the landscape and how the warm evening light transforms the atmosphere during aperitivo and dinner.
At Villa Cini, we appreciate the intimate character of a Tuscan countryside celebration, where the natural surroundings and the architecture become part of the story without overwhelming it.
Villa La Selva, in the countryside near Siena, is another venue that perfectly represents the atmosphere we love about this region. With its historic character, vineyards, and beautiful outdoor spaces, it offers a wonderful balance between refined elegance and authentic Tuscan charm.
Then there is Borgo Laticastelli, a beautifully restored medieval hamlet overlooking the countryside near Rapolano Terme. We particularly love the sense of intimacy created by its stone buildings, narrow passages, and panoramic terraces. It is the kind of place where a wedding feels like an entire Italian experience rather than simply a single-day event.
In the Val d'Orcia, Terre di Nano is one of those venues that seems almost designed for photography. The rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, open horizons, and extraordinary sunsets create some of the most recognizable landscapes in Tuscany. What we love most is the opportunity to combine these iconic views with completely spontaneous, unscripted moments.
Antico Borgo San Lorenzo, near Colle di Val d'Elsa, offers the charm of a traditional Tuscan hamlet, with stone architecture, intimate outdoor spaces, and a relaxed countryside atmosphere. It is particularly beautiful for celebrations where guests can spend time together and truly experience the Italian way of life.
Why We Love Photographing Weddings in Siena
What makes wedding photography in Siena so special to us is the extraordinary relationship between landscape, architecture, and light.
The Tuscan sun can be strong and dramatic, creating deep shadows, beautiful contrasts, and warm colors that give photographs a distinctive personality. We love working with this light rather than avoiding it. The textures of old stone, the geometric lines of cypress trees, and the soft shapes of the hills become natural elements of our compositions.
But we also love Siena on cloudy days, when the landscape becomes softer and more atmospheric, or during the final moments of sunset, when the countryside turns golden and everything seems to slow down.
For us, the landscape should never become more important than the people. We don't want to transform a wedding into a long, staged photoshoot. Instead, we use the beauty of the surroundings to enhance real moments, genuine emotions, and spontaneous interactions.
Our style combines documentary wedding photography with an editorial sensibility. We pay attention to composition, colors, and natural light, but we always prioritize authenticity. The most meaningful images often happen when nobody is thinking about the camera.
A Personal Approach to Destination Wedding Photography in Siena
We are Maurizio and Serena, the married photography duo behind Rellini Art Studio. Since photographing our first wedding in 2001, we have documented more than a thousand celebrations in Italy and around the world, and Tuscany has always been an essential part of our journey.
Our experience working at venues such as Borgo Stomennano, Villa Catignano, Villa Cini, Villa La Selva, Borgo Laticastelli, Terre di Nano, and Antico Borgo San Lorenzo has taught us that every wedding deserves its own visual identity.
Whether you are planning an intimate celebration in a historic villa, a luxury destination wedding overlooking the Val d'Orcia, or a multi-day gathering in a medieval Tuscan hamlet, our goal remains the same: to tell your story with honesty, elegance, and a genuine sense of place.
Because for us, Siena is more than a beautiful backdrop. It is a place we know, a landscape we love, and a part of Tuscany that continues to inspire our photography.

FAQ – Siena Destination Wedding Photographer
Luxury, documentary & editorial wedding photography in Siena, Val d'Orcia and the Tuscan countryside.
Why choose Siena for a destination wedding in Tuscany?
Siena is one of our favorite areas in Tuscany for destination wedding photography. Unlike Florence, with its Renaissance grandeur, Siena has a more medieval, intimate, and wonderfully authentic personality.
We love its rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, ancient stone villages, olive groves, and golden landscapes. The countryside around Siena offers an extraordinary variety of settings, from elegant historic villas to beautifully restored medieval hamlets.
After more than twenty years photographing weddings across Tuscany, we still find Siena particularly inspiring. Its natural light, architecture, and relaxed atmosphere perfectly complement our documentary approach and editorial photographic style.
Which wedding venues in Siena do you photograph most frequently?
Over the years, we have photographed weddings at some of the most beautiful venues in Siena and its surrounding countryside. Among the places we know particularly well are Borgo Stomennano, Villa di Catignano, Borgo Castelvecchi, Borgo Laticastelli, Terre di Nano, Antico Borgo San Lorenzo, and Villa La Selva.
Each venue offers something different, and we love adapting our photography to its individual character.
Borgo Stomennano: A magnificent historic estate near Monteriggioni, with elegant gardens, atmospheric architecture, and a timeless Tuscan character. We particularly love the combination of grand spaces and intimate moments.
Villa di Catignano: A beautiful historic villa near Siena, surrounded by the Chianti countryside. Its gardens, courtyards, and architecture are ideal for refined, natural wedding photography.
Borgo Castelvecchi: A historic estate in the Chianti Classico area, surrounded by vineyards and beautiful countryside. Perfect for couples dreaming of an authentic Tuscan wine-country wedding.
Borgo Laticastelli: A restored medieval hamlet near Rapolano Terme, with stone buildings, panoramic terraces, and a wonderfully intimate atmosphere.
Terre di Nano: An extraordinary countryside estate in the Val d'Orcia, with rolling hills, cypress trees, and some of the most iconic landscapes in Tuscany.
Antico Borgo San Lorenzo: A charming historic hamlet near Colle di Val d'Elsa, particularly suitable for relaxed, multi-day celebrations.
Villa La Selva: An elegant Tuscan estate surrounded by vineyards and countryside, combining historic charm with a relaxed atmosphere.
Knowing these venues helps us understand their spaces, anticipate lighting conditions, and photograph weddings naturally without constantly directing the couple or their guests.
What are the best wedding venues in Siena for a luxury destination wedding?
We believe the best wedding venue depends on the kind of atmosphere you want to create.
For couples looking for historic elegance and magnificent architecture, Borgo Stomennano and Villa di Catignano are wonderful choices.
For a more intimate, authentic Tuscan experience, we particularly love Borgo Laticastelli and Antico Borgo San Lorenzo, where the entire celebration can feel like a private gathering in an Italian village.
For couples dreaming of spectacular landscapes, Terre di Nano offers an extraordinary Val d'Orcia setting, while Borgo Castelvecchi and Villa La Selva are especially appealing for their wine-country atmosphere.
Our advice is to choose a venue that reflects your personality rather than simply following trends.
What makes wedding photography in Siena different from Florence or Chianti?
Each part of Tuscany has its own visual identity, and this is something we genuinely love about photographing weddings here.
Florence is defined by Renaissance architecture, monumental villas, and sophisticated gardens. Chianti is famous for vineyards, wineries, and a warm countryside atmosphere.
Siena offers something different: medieval villages, ancient stone buildings, dramatic hills, and a landscape that often feels more rustic and untouched.
As photographers, we particularly appreciate the contrast between the architectural textures of Siena's historic estates and the softness of its surrounding countryside. It creates images that feel elegant, atmospheric, and deeply connected to the place.
When is the best time of year to get married in Siena, Tuscany?
Our favorite months for weddings in Siena are May, June, September, and early October, when temperatures are generally more comfortable and the landscape offers beautiful seasonal colors.
Spring brings lush greenery and softer light, while late summer and early autumn create the golden, earthy tones that many couples associate with Tuscany.
July and August can also be wonderful, but temperatures can be high. We usually recommend scheduling outdoor ceremonies later in the afternoon and allowing enough time for guests to enjoy a relaxed aperitivo before dinner.
After photographing so many weddings in Tuscany, we know that understanding the sun's position can make an enormous difference to both the photographs and the overall experience.
How do you use the Tuscan landscape and natural light in your wedding photography?
Natural light is one of the most important elements of our photography.
We love the strong contrasts created by the Tuscan sun, the long shadows of cypress trees, the warm colors of historic stone, and the soft light that appears just before sunset.
At venues such as Terre di Nano and Borgo Stomennano, the surrounding landscape becomes an important part of our compositions. At Villa di Catignano and Borgo Laticastelli, we enjoy working with architectural lines, courtyards, and shaded passages.
However, we never want the landscape to overpower the story. Our approach is to combine beautiful settings with genuine moments, allowing the photography to feel spontaneous rather than staged.
Do you offer documentary and editorial wedding photography in Siena?
Absolutely. Our photography is based on a documentary approach, combined with a refined editorial aesthetic.
For most of the wedding day, we work discreetly, observing and capturing real emotions, spontaneous interactions, and unexpected moments.
At the same time, we pay close attention to composition, colors, architecture, and natural light. We love creating sophisticated images without asking couples to spend hours posing.
Our goal is to deliver photographs that feel artistic and elegant while remaining completely authentic to the people and the celebration.
Do you photograph multi-day destination weddings in Siena and Val d'Orcia?
Yes, and we particularly love them.
Many international couples choose Siena for celebrations lasting two, three, or even four days. A welcome dinner, a wine tasting, the wedding itself, and a relaxed pool party the following day can all become part of the experience.
Venues such as Borgo Laticastelli, Antico Borgo San Lorenzo, Borgo Stomennano, and Terre di Nano offer wonderful settings for celebrations that extend beyond a single day, depending on the venue's accommodation and event arrangements.
We enjoy photographing these experiences because they allow us to build a connection with the guests and capture the more spontaneous, informal side of the celebration.
How much time should we dedicate to wedding portraits in Siena?
Usually, 15–20 minutes is more than enough for our couple session.
We believe your wedding should be enjoyed, not turned into a long photoshoot. Most of our photography happens naturally throughout the day, without interrupting the celebration.
For couple portraits, we often suggest a short session close to sunset, when the Tuscan countryside becomes particularly beautiful.
Whether we are photographing a wedding at Terre di Nano, Villa La Selva, or Borgo Castelvecchi, we prefer simple, natural interactions rather than elaborate posing.
Can you help us create the ideal wedding photography timeline in Siena?
Of course. With more than twenty years of wedding photography experience, we know how important a well-planned timeline is.
We generally recommend allowing approximately two hours for getting ready, around 90 minutes for the cocktail reception, and a short portrait session when the light is most flattering.
For summer weddings in Siena, we often suggest planning the ceremony later in the afternoon and scheduling outdoor dinner after sunset, when temperatures are more comfortable.
We are always happy to collaborate with your wedding planner to create a timeline that works naturally for your celebration.
Do you photograph weddings throughout the Siena countryside and Val d'Orcia?
Yes. Although we are based in Umbria, we regularly photograph destination weddings throughout the province of Siena and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
Our coverage includes Siena, Monteriggioni, Colle di Val d'Elsa, San Gimignano, Rapolano Terme, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, and the Val d'Orcia.
We also work throughout Chianti, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, and other destinations across Italy.
Travel expenses are included in our photography collections, making it easier for international couples to plan their weddings without unexpected additional costs.
How quickly will we receive our wedding photographs?
We believe couples should be able to relive their wedding while the emotions are still fresh.
Our typical delivery time is 7–20 days, depending on the wedding and collection. When included in the package, we also provide a preview within 3–4 days.
Every selected photograph is delivered in both color and black and white, giving couples two complementary interpretations of their wedding story.
We do not deliver RAW files, as we consider the final editing process an essential part of our photographic vision.

We want our couples to remember how their wedding felt, not just how beautiful everything looked.
